Week 5 Wrap

Well an easy matchup of the week, dammit.

Mike (Zingers - 91.97) and I (Juicers - 91.44) square off in the 1 v 4 battle. It doesn't work out for me as the hookup from Warner to Fitzgerald is my only real source for points. Everyone else does poorly and can't get in the endzone. Mike gets nice points from Turner and a great game from Cooley. And a huge reception from Lee Evans, who scores more than 15 points with only 2 receptions, but one of which is a 80+ yard TD. Evans also gets a tackle, which is the difference in the matchup as we play down to the wire and he wins by half a point. Monday night I'm down by about 5, and Stupid Reggie Bush kept returning punts for TDs instead of letting my Lance Moore catch another pass. Mike wins by an assisted tack, a 4 yard reception, or 8 rushing yards. Sick. But now I post the highest losing score and can give up the luckstick and the undefeated burden, unless a score correction kicks in on Wednesday!

It was a low scoring week in general and the high score this week is Jake (Miracle Workers - 106.52). Mom's (Rockhoppers - 70.71) the unlucky one that has to play #1. Jake gets almost all his real points from weird places - Reggie Bush return yards and TDs, a kicker that has been blah, a defender that goes wild on tackles... most everything else is disappointing for steady eddie. But if you can break 100 every week you don't ask too many questions. Bush and Breez look out of sync though, except for those return yards. Mom's Rivers is returning to the average QB he really is, but Gore continues to be one of the best RBs out there. Mom really gets sort of average scores from everyone and no stand outs means no win. She uses up the low score of the week and of her season against the top score of the week though, which is a nice coincidence.

Brandon/Jim (Chunder Blunders - 76.17) was also in a nice spot against Kevin (Buc-ee's Boys - 101.13) on Monday night, with Adrian Peterson to go against Kev's Henderson and Minnesota D. But Peterson gets stifled by the poor NO D, while Henderson has his best game of the season and Minnesota blocks a kick for a TD and NO puts the ball on the ground a ton. The upshot is Kevin wins handily when it looked like he'd probably lose on Monday night. Brandon's Brandon Jacobs and Kev's Andre Johnson start to show up, while Matt Forte gets one of his 2 games against pathetic Detroit. Chunder can't overcome horrible Detroit, by being stuck with Kitna's 2 points it's over.

Stitch (Rust Belt - 91.54) gets his 2nd straight win against Rowan (Aspire mi Toro - 87.62), even without a defense. Maybe he was thinking of starting his Seattle defense and was afraid the negative points would get him a loss. Don't worry Stitch, Seattle only got -3 points, you would still have won by a tenth of a point! Rowan meanwhile gets great points from Chicago's D and QB, which is only because they played Detroit. Damn Detroit sucks, what a craphole. Portis continues to roll and Stitch gets 6 TDs - tough to beat.

Uncle Chris (Space Cadets - 103.37) ties the streak record winning his 4th in a row and beating Kate (teen girls squad - 87.35). Delhomme has a 2nd straight great week. While, plenty of players turn in somewhat better than average scores to break the century mark. Steve Slaton has come on as a top RB, even when his team stinks it up. Kate gets nice scores across as well except LT and Lendale White fall off the face of the earth and that's really the difference. LT is looking like a 3rd or 4th rounder this year, but who wouldn't have taken him #1 overall?

The always deadly early QB injury sinks Dad (ChumpBeaters - 76.18) against the Winklers (Sooners - 94.48). Dad takes over the loss streak, losing them all after the initial win. He had the highest losing score of the year last week though with 124 points, so it might be a false stat. Also this early QB injury sort of kills most of your hopes. With less than a point from the QB the 20 points from JT O'Sullivan is too much to overcome for the rest of his team. Carolina posts a shutout for Dad against one of the horrible Missouri teams. Missouri is almost as terrible as Detroit. Terribler, even. Heath Miller scores and Reggie Wayne has an amazing TD catch. But 2 TDs doesn't do it. The Winkler's O'Sulllivan throws for 3 and Hightower rushes for 2 himself. Dammit Warner you should have thrown one of those to him and I'd have won easily.

For bad QBs that aren't from Detroit and didn't get hurt, see the Miah (Browns Jr. - 74.92) versus Ben (thehousebergerbuilt - 77.32) matchup. 3 players in the matchup with less than 1 point, and 2 QBs with less than 10. Muhammed outdoes anything Braylon Edwards has done for Miah this season, but being forced to play him by the Brown's bye cannot save Miah when Ben's Bernard Berrian makes a ridiculous catch against New Orleans Monday night. Ben pulls out the victory since someone has to win, and posts the lowest winning score of the week to takeover the luckstick.

So we'll see if the low scores this week were random or the result of byes and injuries weakening our teams. Running backs taken early are a crapshoot this year again - Gore, Barber, Westbrook and Peterson the only #1 backs to be earning their keep. Reggie Bush has the #1 spot in our scoring, which I know surprises Jake - want to trade for McFadden? ;) Don't be fooled - we all know nothing.

Good luck next week, except Rowan.

Holy Crap! It actually happened - Mike had a bunch of stat corrections - lost some yards and gained a team sack, but lost .7 points or so in total. I won because of score corrections again...

Here it is.
